Early in his career, he kept watching the same thing happen. An organization would invest heavily in getting better, run the offsite, bring in the training, launch the culture initiative, and for a few months it worked. Then the silos came back. The same problems resurfaced. The leadership meeting sounded like it had a year before.

Most people accepted that as the cost of doing business. Mark didn't. He kept asking what the lasting changes had that the temporary ones didn't, and what he found reshaped his understanding of accountability.
